Lust and Crime A Hit Formula for Online Entertainment

Lust, Crime and Online Entertainment
Lust, Crime and Online Entertainment

As a creator we are always curious about what people want to watch? What makes their content viral

What is the key formula to become successful?

In recent storm of online entertainment and less censorship we are getting direct non filtered content
which audience wants to see.
With the commencement of platforms like Netflix, Prime etc the consumption of entertainment
increased with big margin in individual life and command over the choice of content with the separate
categories like Documentary, Web Series, Bollywood, Hollywood and with some genre specifications like
Horror, Thriller, Comedy, Romance etc. So what you want to see next?
We just typed “Crime” on Google and got these results:-
Google Search Result With Keyword "Crime"
Google Search Result With Keyword "Crime"
Criminal Justice, Crime Petrol, Crime Alert, Crime Petrol 2019 etc. The prime results shows that what
content is majorly available on internet and what people are searching online. All the available stuff on
suggestions is showing the kind of mindset we have and what content we are looking for?
It also reflects that we have more crime elements available on internet in the form of entertainment. In
recent success of web series “Mirzapur” directed by Karan Anshuman, Gurmmeet Singh shows how
much we are liking the violence on screen, restricted adult content and conservative mindset in our
country are giving more power to the these subscription based platform to set their own norms.
It’s not the only case with dark theme suspense and thriller content in fact Sex and Nudity major
weapons used by filmmakers to make content sellable online.
There are certain platforms like Alt Balaji, Voot, ZEE 5 etc who are keen to produce more content like
that. After the sensational success of anthology “Lust Stories” on Netflix, other platforms have invited
writers and content to create content like “ Gandi Baat 1, Gandi Baat 2, Fuck Buddies, F for Fantasy, XXX
Uncensored“, etc.
I am not against anyone neither in favor of censorship or limited censorship, in my opinion viewers has
the only right to filter the content but filmmakers also have to take some responsibilities in terms of
content creation because films are the tool of social learning.
Everything has a saturation point and every content has a expiry date, films like Alfred Hitchcock’s
“Psycho” is still relevant but only in terms of learning not entertainment because almost every
entertaining content has a saturation point, social context and involvement of technology plays a very
vital role so the meaning of entertainment changes with time.
